Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is the skilled passive movement of joints and soft tissues. It includes:
Mobilisation and Manipulation of spinal and peripheral joints
Muscle Energy Techniques
Passive Stretching of Contractile Tissue
Manual muscle relaxation techniques
Neural Mobilisation
Treatment can vary from very small gentle low amplitude movements for pain relief, to large amplitude or strong small amplitude end of range movements for improving Range of Movement. Early mobilisation can help with the organisation and repair of soft tissue to prevent adhesion and enable a return to normal function after an acute injury. Mobilisation is also beneficial for chronic conditions such as Arthritis in improving and maintaining Range of Movement and improving vascular and lymphatic supply to the joints.
